Ben Cohen, coâfounder of Ben & Jerryâs, claims that parent company Unilever prevented the iceâcream maker from creating a special flavor aimed at showing solidarity with Palestinians. On his social platform post, he announced that despite efforts within the company to launch a âflavor for Palestine,â Unilever (via its iceâcream division Magnum) âstoppedâ the initiative.
Cohen said he plans to move ahead with his own watermelonâflavored ice cream â watermelon being symbolic of Palestinian solidarity due to its flagâmatching colors. He asked the public for help naming the flavor, suggesting packaging ideas and ingredients.
He stressed that Palestinians are still living under difficult conditions after years of conflict and that the flavor is his effort to spotlight the need for dignity, safety and equal rights. Unilever has yet to publicly respond to his claims.
