Aramco and Yokogawa hit a major milestone: autonomous AI agents now running at Fadhili Gas Plant

Aramco and Yokogawa Electric Corporation have teamed up to deploy multiple autonomous control AI agents at the Fadhili Gas Plant in Saudi Arabia—marking a key advance in industrial automation. The system uses coordinated AI agents powered by a reinforcement‑learning algorithm called FKDPP, developed jointly by Yokogawa and the Nara Institute of Science and Technology. Following a three‑phase rollout—starting with simulating the plant, then integration into Yokogawa’s CENTUM VP system—the AI now autonomously manages the acid gas removal unit’s core process. Early results show a 10‑15% reduction in amine and steam usage, about a 5% drop in power consumption, improved process stability, and reduced manual operator intervention.
