Amazon Web Services (AWS) has pledged a minimum investment of $5âŊbillion in South Korea by 2031 to develop new artificialâintelligence data centres, according to a statement from the South Korean presidential office.
The announcement came during a meeting between AWS CEO Matt Garman and President Lee Jaeâmyung on the sidelines of the APEC Summit in Gyeongju.
South Korea aims to become one of the worldâs top three AI leaders, and the AWS investment is intended to accelerate that goal by bolstering local AI ecosystem infrastructure.
AWS has already flagged broader investment plans, including a commitment of $40âŊbillion across 14 nonâU.S. APEC economies by 2028âpart of which will benefit South Koreaâs dataâcentre ambitions.
