Walmart and Google have unveiled a strategic collaboration to bring “agent‑led commerce” to life by integrating Walmart and Sam’s Club products directly into Google’s AI assistant, Gemini. The initiative uses Google’s new Universal Commerce Protocol, allowing shoppers to engage with Gemini to discover, browse, and purchase items from Walmart’s extensive inventory through conversational AI rather than traditional search tools.
Under the partnership, Gemini will automatically include in‑store and online products from Walmart and Sam’s Club when relevant to user queries. When customers link their accounts, personalized recommendations based on previous purchases can be offered, and products added through Gemini can be combined with existing Walmart or Sam’s Club carts. Additionally, members will retain benefits such as Walmart+ and Sam’s Club perks, and delivery options include rapid fulfillment in under three hours or as fast as 30 minutes.
Walmart’s leadership calls this move a pivotal shift from traditional web and app searches toward AI‑driven shopping experiences that feel more intuitive and seamless. Google’s CEO highlighted the potential of AI to enhance every stage of the consumer journey, underscoring how this integration could transform how people shop online and access products.
