In a move engineered to streamline ride‑booking for Chinese tourists in Singapore, Tencent Cloud—the cloud‑arm of tech giant Tencent—has announced the launch of a new Weixin/WeChat Mini Program in partnership with Singapore‑based mobility platform Ryde Group Ltd (NYSE American: RYDE). The initiative builds on a previous integration of Tencent Cloud’s Real‑Time Communication (“TRTC”) technology into Ryde’s app infrastructure.
The newly deployed Mini Program enables Chinese visitors—more than 3 million annually—to book rides via the Weixin/WeChat ecosystem without downloading a separate app. It supports Simplified Chinese, displays fares in RMB, and connects to Weixin/WeChat Pay for seamless payment within the familiar messaging platform.
From Ryde’s perspective, this move strengthens their position in the Singapore mobility market by tapping into Tencent’s user‑base and infrastructure. “The new Mini Program enhances accessibility … offering a familiar and localised booking experience that aligns with their language and currency preferences,” said Ryde’s CTO, Nitin Dolli.
On Tencent Cloud’s side, regional director Kenneth Siow emphasised the commitment to extending Weixin/WeChat Pay and Mini Program solutions beyond China, supporting inbound tourism and cross‑border digital experiences.
The collaboration signals a deeper strategic alliance: moving beyond infrastructure support (via TRTC) into direct consumer‑facing services that leverage Tencent’s ecosystem, thereby enabling Ryde to deliver more personalised and frictionless mobility for Chinese visitors in Singapore. While infrastructure and user‑experience gains are clear, the ultimate test will be the uptake of the Mini Program bookings and the seamless integration of payment flows within this new channel.
