In a move engineered to streamline rideâbooking for Chinese tourists in Singapore, Tencent Cloudâthe cloudâarm of tech giant Tencentâhas announced the launch of a newâŊWeixin/WeChat MiniâŊProgram in partnership with Singaporeâbased mobility platform Ryde Group LtdâŊ(NYSEâŊAmerican:âŊRYDE). The initiative builds on a previous integration of Tencent Cloudâs RealâTime Communication (âTRTCâ) technology into Rydeâs app infrastructure.
The newly deployed MiniâŊProgram enables Chinese visitorsâmore than 3âŊmillion annuallyâto book rides via the Weixin/WeChat ecosystem without downloading a separate app. It supports Simplified Chinese, displays fares in RMB, and connects to Weixin/WeChat Pay for seamless payment within the familiar messaging platform.
From Rydeâs perspective, this move strengthens their position in the Singapore mobility market by tapping into Tencentâs userâbase and infrastructure. âThe new MiniâŊProgram enhances accessibility âĶ offering a familiar and localised booking experience that aligns with their language and currency preferences,â said Rydeâs CTO, Nitin Dolli.
On Tencent Cloudâs side, regional director Kenneth Siow emphasised the commitment to extending Weixin/WeChat Pay and MiniâŊProgram solutions beyond China, supporting inbound tourism and crossâborder digital experiences.
The collaboration signals a deeper strategic alliance: moving beyond infrastructure support (via TRTC) into direct consumerâfacing services that leverage Tencentâs ecosystem, thereby enabling Ryde to deliver more personalised and frictionless mobility for Chinese visitors in Singapore. While infrastructure and userâexperience gains are clear, the ultimate test will be the uptake of the MiniâŊProgram bookings and the seamless integration of payment flows within this new channel.
