Taiwanese prosecutors announced on Monday that they have filed **additional indictments** against the Taiwan unit of **Tokyo Electron** and three other defendants in a high‑profile case involving the alleged theft of trade secrets from semiconductor giant **TSMC** (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company).
The new charges build on earlier legal action taken last month, when prosecutors charged the Taiwan unit of Tokyo Electron with violations of the National Security Act and Trade Secrets Act after an earlier indictment in August against a former employee accused of stealing confidential information from TSMC.
Prosecutors have indicated that if convicted, the Tokyo Electron Taiwan unit could face fines of up to T$120 million (about $3.8 million USD). Tokyo Electron, a major manufacturer of chipmaking equipment, has stressed that the parent company has not been indicted and that the situation does not affect its financial results.
The case highlights continued concern in Taiwan over safeguarding critical semiconductor technology amid growing global competition and industrial espionage risks.
