South Korea’s president, Lee Jae Myung, on Tuesday called for significantly tougher penalties and stronger digital‑privacy protections after a massive leak of personal data from the country’s leading e‑commerce platform, Coupang. At a cabinet meeting, Lee said he was “astonished” that Coupang failed to notice the data breach for five months. Authorities have confirmed the breach affected more than 33â€Ŋmillion customers, exposing names, email addresses, home addresses and phone numbers. Lee demanded a comprehensive overhaul of data protection practices — pointing out that safeguarding personal information is critical in an age of AI and digitalization. He said the government will review and likely raise fines and punitive damages to reflect the severity of such incidents. Police investigations into what is being described as South Korea’s worst data leak in over a decade are ongoing, including scrutiny of possible system vulnerabilities at Coupang. #SouthKorea #Coupang #DataBreach #DigitalPrivacy #SlimScan #GrowthStocks #CANSLIM
