Sigma Lithium Restarts Mining Operations at Mine 1 in Brazil

Sigma Lithium Corporation has officially resumed mining activities at its Mine 1 facility located in the Vale do Jequitinhonha region of Brazil, marking a major milestone in its operational plan and concluding a comprehensive restructuring effort initiated in the fourth quarter of 2025. This announcement confirms that mining at Mine 1 has returned to work as scheduled, with more than 600 people actively engaged on site to support the restart and ramp-up of production.

Completion of Mining Restructuring

The resumption of mining activities represents the successful conclusion of a significant restructuring process for Sigma Lithium’s mining operations that took place over several months. During this time, the company’s technical leadership assumed control of all mining planning and activities, overseeing a range of contractors providing equipment, blasting, and drilling services, as well as the regional workforce of drivers and machine operators.

The restructuring focused heavily on enhancing safety protocols and improving overall operational efficiency. A key element involved expanding the fleet of “off-road” mining equipment to significantly increase earth-moving and ore delivery capabilities. This expansion aligns with the production capacity requirements of Sigma Lithium’s Greentech Industrial Plant, which continues to process ore and dry-stacked tailings.

Mining Site Workforce and Operations

Over 600 people are now working on site at Mine 1, including both company personnel and subcontracted workers. This combined team is executing a planned, phased deployment of new equipment and operations that ensure a gradual and safe increase in mining output.

Sigma Lithium also implemented a staged equipment deployment strategy, starting with third-party equipment before transitioning to leased machines. These steps ensure the mining operations follow safety protocols and sequencing plans for efficient ore extraction and delivery to the processing plants.

Strategic Financial and Commercial Support

The restructuring and resumption of mining were supported financially in part by the sale of Sigma Lithium’s inventory of high-purity, low-grade lithium oxide concentrate fines. Inventory available at the end of the previous year included approximately 950,000 tonnes of fines sold at prices around US$140 per tonne, which helped generate cash flow and reduce the need for external financing.

In addition, Sigma Lithium received backing from its major global clients and financial partners through contractual collateral and working capital arrangements tied to future sales volumes. This support provided necessary liquidity during the restructuring and helped ensure uninterrupted progress toward operational targets.

Production and Growth Outlook

While Sigma Lithium’s Greentech Industrial Plant has continued operating during the mining pause by processing stockpiled materials, the restart of Mine 1 will increase ore feed and support sustained plant throughput. The company plans to issue full production guidance for 2026 once mining operations reach a “steady state” during the first quarter.

Looking ahead, Sigma Lithium aims to increase production scale over the next 12 months, including advancing construction and commissioning of the Phase 2 Greentech Industrial Plant. This expansion is designed to meet growing global demand for lithium battery materials and nearly double the company’s processing capacity.

Operational Ramp-Up and Safety Commitment

Sigma Lithium emphasizes that safety remains a core priority throughout the mining ramp-up. New equipment and personnel deployment have been planned to ensure controlled operational growth, following rigorous safety and environmental protocols.

This commitment comes as part of Sigma Lithium’s broader vision to lead environmentally sustainable lithium production—extracting and processing materials with minimal environmental impact. The Mine 1 resumption, combined with ongoing plant operations and expansion efforts, positions the company to contribute significantly to the lithium supply chain for electric vehicle batteries and renewable energy storage.
