Samsung Electronics on Tuesday unveiled its first multiâfolding smartphone â the Galaxy Z TriFold â marking a bold step into a segment of the phone market where competition is ramping up. The Galaxy Z TriFold folds out into a 10âinch display via three panels, making it nearly 25% larger than Samsungâs current flagship foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The device carries a premium price tag of about 3.59 million won (roughlyâŊUS$2,440).
Manufactured in South Korea, the TriFold will hit domestic shelves on DecemberâŊ12, with launches in China, Singapore, Taiwan, and the UAE before yearâend. A United States rollout is expected in early 2026. The phone packs Samsungâs largest flagshipâseries battery yet and supports superâfast charging (50% in 30 minutes), aiming to deliver a compelling foldable experience.
Even so, analysts caution the TriFold is more of a âtechnology showcaseâ than a mainstream flagship. As this is the first commercially released triâfold design, scaling production and ensuring durability remain open questions. Given these factors â along with high price and earlier efforts from rivals like Huawei and speculation of an upcoming foldable from Apple â foldables are still likely to remain a niche within the broader smartphone market. According to research firm Counterpoint Research, foldables are expected to account for under 2% of global smartphone sales in 2025, rising to less than 3% by 2027.
