Rocket Lab has just kicked off 2026 with a major victory: the aerospace company secured the largest contract in its history, a significant boost to its space systems business. On December 19, the U.S. Space Force’s Space Development Agency (SDA) awarded Rocket Lab an approximately $816 million prime contract to design and build 18 advanced missile tracking satellites as part of the Tracking Layer Tranche 3 (TRKT3) under the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture program.
This new award surpasses Rocket Lab’s previous biggest contract — a $515 million deal in 2023 to build 18 satellites for the Transport Layer Beta network — by about 58 %, marking a new high for the company.
The TRKT3 satellites include sophisticated missile warning, tracking, and defense sensors to help detect and track emerging threats around the globe, including hypersonic systems. Rocket Lab won its share alongside major defense contractors like Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and L3Harris, each also contracted for 18 satellites.
In addition to the prime contract value, Rocket Lab could see further revenue by supplying components and payloads — including its StarLite space protection sensors — to other partners working on TRKT3 satellites. Combined with existing SDA work, the company’s total contracts are now valued at more than $1.3 billion.
For investors and the broader defense space industry, this deal not only strengthens Rocket Lab’s revenue outlook but also confirms its place alongside legacy defense contractors as a rising space systems supplier.
