Amsterdam – A hearing this week at the Amsterdam District Court will determine the amount of compensation that Heineken N.V. must pay to Macedonian Thrace Brewery (MTB), following years of anti‑competitive conduct by Heineken’s Greek subsidiary Athenian Brewery in the Greek beer market. MTB originally filed its follow‑on damages claim in 2017, which has withstood multiple procedural attempts by Heineken to dismiss the case. The European Court of Justice ruled in February that Heineken and Athenian Brewery form a single economic entity, clearing the way for the Dutch court to rule on liability. MTB is seeking more than €180 million in damages, with interest accumulating and still rising. A final decision on the compensation amount is expected in the first half of 2026. Meanwhile, Heineken faces similar claims from other brewers — notably Carlsberg A/S’s case, which exceeds €300 million and also stems from alleged anti‑competitive activities in Greece. With mounting legal pressure, declining beer sales, and growing investor concern, the stakes for Heineken’s leadership continue to rise. #competitionlaw #antitrust #beerindustry #Heineken #SlimScan #GrowthStocks #CANSLIM
