Intuit has signed a multiâyear agreement in which it will pay OpenAI more than US$100âŊmillion per year to integrate OpenAIâs languageâmodelsâmost notably ChatGPTâinto Intuitâs suite of financialâservices apps including TurboTax, QuickBooks and Credit Karma.
Under the deal, ChatGPT users will be able to access Intuitâs financialâtools directly through the chatbot interface. That means the ability to estimate tax refunds, apply for personal loans or mortgages, run payroll or business accounting tasksâall via conversational AI.
Intuitâs CEO, Sasan Goodarzi, said the partnership âcombines our proprietary financial data, credit models and AI platform capabilities with OpenAIâs scale and frontier modelsâ to help users financially prosper.
OpenAI emphasised that the move marks a shift from consumerâonly applications toward deeper businessâintegrations, and that via the agreement Intuitâs apps will be embedded in ChatGPT while maintaining dataâprivacy safeguards: users will opt in and Intuit retains control over what data is shared.
The collaboration comes as Intuit already serves around 100âŊmillion customers worldwide. The company expects that AI integrations will deepen customer engagement and attract new users, even as certain of its business units (such as its Mailchimp marketing platform) have underâperformed.
In stock markets, the announcement triggered a positive response: Intuitâs shares rose circaâŊ3.4âŊ% in preâmarket trading.
In short: by embedding its financial services inside ChatGPT and linking its deep dataâsets with OpenAIâs AI models, Intuit is betting big on AI becoming not just a featureâbut the front door to personal and business finance.
