India’s Competition Commission (CCI) has concluded a major antitrust investigation, finding that leading steelmakers — Tata Steel, JSW Steel, state‑run Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) and 25 other companies — violated Indian competition law by colluding to fix steel selling prices over several years. The findings are detailed in a confidential CCI order dated October 6 that has not yet been made public and was reported for the first time on Jan.â€Ŋ6,â€Ŋ2026. The order names 56 senior executives, including JSW’s billionaire MD Sajjan Jindal, Tata Steel CEO T.V. Narendran, and former SAIL chairpersons, as personally liable in the alleged collusion that spanned from 2015 to 2023. The probe, one of the most high‑profile cases in India’s steel industry, began in 2021 after a builders’ association accused several firms of restricting supply and driving up prices. Under Indian law, penalties could reach up to three times profits or 10â€Ŋ% of turnover for each year of wrongdoing. The CCI will now review the companies’ objections before issuing a final public order, a process expected to take several months. WhatsApp messages among steel makers are among the evidence examined. Some firms have denied the allegations. #Antitrust #SteelIndustry #IndiaBusiness #CompetitionLaw #SlimScan #GrowthStocks #CANSLIM
