Grey Matters Health Rebrands With Ambitious Brain PET Scan Network Strategy
Grey Matters Health has announced a major strategic shift, moving away from its former pharmaceutical development focus and repositioning itself around brain health diagnostics in the United States.
The company, formerly known as Algernon Health, is now focused on building what it describes as a dedicated brain PET scan diagnostic network. Its first flagship NovaScan clinic is planned for Florida, with operations expected to begin in September 2026, according to Proactive.
Company Moves Toward Cash-Flow Focused Healthcare Model
The rebrand marks more than a name change. It reflects a new business direction under CEO Christopher Moreau, who said the company needed a clearer and more commercially focused path after years of working on a pharmaceutical pipeline that was difficult to finance.
Grey Matters Health now aims to create a healthcare services model built around diagnostic imaging, especially for patients with Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological conditions.
Why Brain PET Scans Are Becoming More Important
Demand for brain PET scans is rising because newer Alzheimer’s treatments often require confirmation of amyloid plaque in the brain before patients can begin therapy. This confirmation can be done through a brain PET scan or other diagnostic methods.
The company believes this creates a major opportunity, as millions of Americans are living with Alzheimer’s and related cognitive disorders. At the same time, traditional imaging centers often prioritize cancer and cardiac scans over neurological imaging.
New Scanner Designed for Patient Comfort
Grey Matters Health plans to use a brain-focused PET scanner that differs from larger conventional PET/CT machines. Instead of lying flat and moving through a large scanner tunnel, patients sit upright while the device moves around them.
This design may be especially helpful for older patients or people experiencing memory loss, dizziness, or anxiety in tight medical spaces. The company also says the scanner requires less installation infrastructure and may reduce radiation exposure compared with conventional PET/CT systems.
Florida Clinic to Launch First
The first NovaScan clinic is planned inside the medical offices of HCA Florida University Hospital in Davie, Florida. The location is expected to serve neurology patients while also becoming Grey Matters Health’s corporate headquarters.
Management said each clinic is intended to operate with a lean structure, using a small team and a patient-focused service model. The company is also planning additional Florida locations by the second quarter of 2027.
Partnerships Support the Strategy
Grey Matters Health’s rollout is supported by partnerships and referral plans. A marketing alliance with GE Healthcare is expected to help introduce NovaScan to referral networks, while American Radiology will support image reading and diagnosis through its radiology team.
The company is targeting neurologists, geriatricians, psychiatrists, and primary care doctors who may refer patients for brain imaging.
Investor Perspective
For investors, the company’s new strategy changes the story from long-term drug development to a healthcare service business that aims to generate revenue from clinical operations. However, the model still carries execution risks, including patient volume, insurance credentialing, isotope supply, and funding for expansion.
Grey Matters Health says the first Florida clinic will be an important test of whether the NovaScan model can scale across the United States.
Conclusion
Grey Matters Health is betting that brain-focused diagnostics will become a larger part of Alzheimer’s care and neurological medicine. By rebranding and launching a dedicated PET scan clinic network, the company is attempting to meet growing diagnostic demand with a more patient-friendly and commercially focused model.
