BioArctic Q1 2026: Leqembi Royalties and Milestone Payment Drive Strong Start to the Year

BioArctic AB reported a strong first quarter of 2026, supported by rising royalty income from the Alzheimer’s treatment Leqembi and a major milestone payment from partner Eisai. The company said its net revenue reached SEK 437.6 million, including SEK 160.8 million in Leqembi royalties and SEK 218.8 million from a milestone payment linked to Leqembi sales.

Leqembi Sales Continue to Strengthen BioArctic’s Position

Leqembi remained the key growth driver for BioArctic during the quarter. Global sales of the treatment reached JPY 26.2 billion, helping BioArctic generate royalty income that rose 68% compared with Q1 2025. The sales performance also triggered a EUR 20 million milestone payment after Leqembi exceeded EUR 500 million in sales during Eisai’s fiscal year 2025.

BioArctic CEO Gunilla Osswald described the quarter as a strong start to 2026, following what the company called a transformative year in 2025. Management emphasized that more patients are gaining access to Leqembi, which supports both the company’s financial outlook and its long-term role in Alzheimer’s disease treatment.

Profit Remains Solid Despite Lower Year-Over-Year Comparison

BioArctic posted operating profit of SEK 210.8 million and profit for the period of SEK 212.4 million. Earnings per share came in at SEK 2.40 before dilution and SEK 2.39 after dilution. While these figures were lower than the unusually high results from Q1 2025, the latest quarter still showed a profitable and financially stable business.

The company ended the period with SEK 2.03 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and short-term investments. This gives BioArctic a strong financial base to support research, development, commercialization efforts, and potential business development opportunities.

Regulatory Progress Adds Momentum

BioArctic also highlighted regulatory progress for Leqembi. Eisai’s supplemental application for subcutaneous initiation treatment with Leqembi Iqlik received Priority Review from the U.S. FDA. After the quarter ended, the FDA extended the review period, setting a new target action date of August 24, 2026.

Similar regulatory processes are ongoing in Japan and China. In China, authorities have also granted Priority Review for subcutaneous administration of Leqembi. BioArctic said these developments could help make treatment easier for patients and less demanding for healthcare systems.

Long-Term Data Supports Leqembi’s Clinical Story

At the AD/PD conference in March, new long-term and real-world data showed that Leqembi’s disease-slowing effect was sustained for up to four years of treatment. BioArctic said this matters because Alzheimer’s disease is progressive, and preserving patient function for longer can be meaningful for both patients and families.

BrainTransporter Technology Remains a Strategic Focus

Beyond Leqembi, BioArctic continues to advance its BrainTransporter technology platform. The company said interest in the platform remains strong, and management is increasing its focus on business development. The technology is designed to improve delivery of treatments across the blood-brain barrier, a major challenge in neurological drug development.

Outlook: BioArctic Enters 2026 With Financial Strength

BioArctic’s Q1 2026 results show a company benefiting from commercial traction, milestone income, and a growing Alzheimer’s treatment market. Eisai has forecast Leqembi sales of JPY 143.5 billion for fiscal year 2026, representing expected growth of 63% year over year.

Overall, BioArctic appears to be entering a new phase where recurring royalties, regulatory expansion, and pipeline development all play important roles. While investors will continue watching reimbursement decisions, regulatory timelines, and Leqembi adoption rates, the first quarter showed that the company has both scientific momentum and financial flexibility.

Key Takeaway

BioArctic’s Q1 2026 performance was driven by rising Leqembi royalties, a major Eisai milestone payment, and continued regulatory progress. The company remains well funded and positioned to invest further in Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and its BrainTransporter platform.
