The event was held from May 4 to May 7, 2026, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

ACT Expo Shows Demand for Practical Clean Transportation Solutions

The ACT Expo brought together fleet operators, original equipment manufacturers, fuel providers, and technology companies to discuss real-world transportation challenges. According to American Power Group, the main message from the event was clear: fleets want cleaner technology, but it must also make strong business sense.

Coppa said many industry presentations focused on solutions that are cost-effective, proven, and ready for deployment. He noted that this is where APG believes its dual fuel technology can play an important role, especially for heavy-duty fleets that already operate diesel trucks.

RNG and CNG Could Gain Momentum in Heavy-Duty Trucking

One key topic at the expo was the use of renewable natural gas, or RNG, and compressed natural gas, or CNG, in heavy-duty trucking. Coppa pointed to sessions focused on RNG as a practical trucking solution that can help reduce emissions while supporting fuel flexibility.

American Power Group said natural gas still represents only a small share of total heavy-duty transportation fuel use. However, the company believes dual fuel conversions could help increase demand by allowing existing diesel trucks to use natural gas without requiring fleets to buy entirely new alternative fuel vehicles.

APG Sees Large Market Potential for Class 8 Trucks

APG estimates that if 1,000 Class 8 heavy-duty SCR trucks were converted to use its V7000 dual fuel system, they could consume about 11 million gasoline gallon equivalents of natural gas at a 50% diesel displacement rate. The company further estimated that converting 25,000 trucks, about 1% of the overall market, could raise natural gas consumption to roughly 273 million gasoline gallon equivalents.

The company also stated that if those 25,000 trucks used dairy-based RNG at a 50% displacement rate, the total carbon dioxide reduction could reach about 12.5 million tons.

Lower-Cost Path Compared With Buying New Trucks

Coppa emphasized that APG’s approach may appeal to fleet owners because it focuses on upgrading existing diesel engines. Instead of spending more than $300,000 on a new alternative fuel heavy-duty truck, fleets could install APG’s dual fuel system and a suitable natural gas storage tank at a smaller cost.

This matters because many trucking companies face tight budgets, high equipment costs, and pressure to reduce emissions. A conversion-based model may allow fleets to begin using cleaner fuels while continuing to rely on trucks they already own.

How APG’s Dual Fuel Technology Works

American Power Group says its patented hardware and software system allows high-horsepower diesel engines to safely replace up to 65% of diesel fuel with natural gas. The system can use RNG, CNG, LNG, captured flare-stack methane, and conditioned well-head gas.

The company also says its technology remains compatible with eligible biodiesel blends and renewable diesel fuels. This gives operators more flexibility as they look for ways to reduce fuel costs and lower emissions.

No Single Solution for Clean Trucking

Coppa concluded that there is no single “silver bullet” for increasing RNG demand or solving the transportation sector’s emissions challenges. Still, he said APG’s dual fuel diesel engine conversion technology is a proven and available option that can help fleets begin moving toward cleaner domestic natural gas.
